This drink was absolute perfection with our burger dinner Saturday evening before Mother's Day. It's been pretty warm here the past week and a glass of ice cold Watermelon Lemonade really cools you off. We all loved the flavor combo. Eric couldn't get enough of it. His usual favorites are water and orange juice, so to see him going back for seconds, thirds, and fourths of this...well, it was easy to see that this recipe had earned a "keeper" status in our house. The original recipe doesn't mention straining, however I chose to strain the pureed watermelon over a fine mesh strainer to thin it out. I also left the mint out, because hubby isn't a fan.
Watermelon Lemonadeadapted from Southern Living
- 15 cups seeded and cubed watermelon
- 2 (12-ounce) cans frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
- Ice
- Garnishes: watermelon wedges
What a refreshing beverage. I usually don't make anything with watermelon because it is my favorite and I think it is perfect as is, but I will have to try this one:)
ReplyDeleteThis looks so refreshing and I'm always looking for something fun for the kids to make using watermelon. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds just about perfect. Thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking this might be an option at my sister's baby shower in June. Looks good and the color is so appropriate for a girl baby shower.
ReplyDeleteHow much mint was supposed to go in the recipe?
Whitney - here is the original recipe

ReplyDeleteSince frozen lemonade concentrate very likely contains high fructose corn syrup, Im going to this using "Simply Lemonade" from Whole Foods and adding the "mooshed/strained" watermelon until the color looks just right. Lovely idea, thanks.

Love it! Refreshing!
ReplyDeleteahhhhhhhhh sounds yummy! I need a glass of lemonade right now!!!
ReplyDeleteI was inspired by a comment made by Will Oldham (aka Bonnie Prince Billy) in a New Yorker profile to mix mashed-up watermelon with a little sugar and a healthy pour of tequila, over ice of course. If you like watermelon lemonade, try the Bonnie Prince Billy version! :)
ReplyDeleteI've also heard that watermelon drinks with a basil leaf garnish are nice- but I haven't tried it yet.
My mouth is watering! Adding watermelon and lemons to shopping list right now. I'd like to try a taste test of mint and non mint versions. I have much of it growing in my garden and I love it so.
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteSounds a great idea and i would love to make it but i don't think we have frozen lemonade concentrate in the uk. How could i substitute it - fresh lemon juice and sugar?
Your advice would be great,
thanks
Felicity
Felicity - I would think that should work, but I haven't tried it myself. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThis watermelon lemonade looks positively refreshing. I only wish the weather around me would cooperate (cloudy, threatening rain). Either way, it is the perfect summery drink.
