Besides the behind-the-scenes and tips, Kristen has started a monthly challenge called "Through my Lens" - an Experiment in Interpretation. This month's challenge was:
The next assignment for Through My Lens will be Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches. Easy to make, but I think it will be a challenge to photograph! Imagine that you have been hired by a magazine to photograph a simple PB&J for them. How will you interpret that assignment?
Peanut butter and jelly is such a kid food to me, though I'm sure some of the submissions will prove me wrong. I photographed and styled my sandwich from what I'd imagine a kid's magazine would publish. I decided to cut the bread into circles for a little cute factor, since PBJ is a pretty basic sandwich. Here is my submission and "recipe."
Sky High Strawberry-Banana "Peanut" Butter and Jelly

- 3 slices multi-grain bread (I really like Milton's)
- Sunflower Seed or Almond Butter*
- 1/4 of a banana, mashed
- 2 Tbs strawberry preserves
*Logan is severely allergic to peanuts. Feel free to use peanut butter if you can and like it.
My kind of sandwich! I love almond butter and I always add fruit for natural sweetness! Great photos!
