I know talking health and exercise isn't my usual topic here, but it is something I aim for. I think I naturally gravitate towards healthy foods, especially during spring and summer when so much fresh produce is available and the weather is nice outside, but I do have a huge sweet tooth and I haven't made a point for regular exercise. I'm not overweight. I don't have serious health problems, high blood pressure, or bad cholesterol levels, but I do want to improve my health. I can be lazy though, I need motivation, and support, so that is why I joined RecipeGirl's Ten in10 Challenge.

The premise of the challenge is taking 10 weeks (starting January 2nd) to make changes for the better and develop healthy habits. We all have different goals, but we're working together to meet the goals. Anyway can participate, whether you have a blog or not. Head over the RecipeGirl's post to sign up and for more information.
What are my goals?
- Eat more fruits and vegetables: This is easy for me in the spring and summer, but not so easy right now. I love fruit and vegetables, but I need to explore new varieties and recipes during these winter months.
- Drink more water: Take water with me when I'm out running errands for hours so I don't forget about water. Don't wait until I feel like I'm dying of thirst to have a glass.
- Maintain a healthy weight: I have a high metabolism and I tend to forget to eat when I'm busy, so I often lose weight without realizing. I recognize that this isn't good.
- Exercise Daily: I don't have time for hours in the gym, but it exercise still needs to happen. I'm doing the 30 Day Shred (20 minute workout) daily because that's what I have time for and it's more than what I've been doing.
- Eat a better breakfast and lunch: I often tend to snack all day. This keeps my energy up, but doesn't really provide the nutrients and calories my body needs. Plan these meals like I would plan dinner. It doesn't have to be complicated. Make it happen and make it healthy.

Great goals. I am SO glad you are doing the challenge too! I am here for support:)
ReplyDeleteThese are great goals! Glad to be doing the challenge with you!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Thanks for tweeting me the link. I have a love/hate with the 30 Day Shred. I hate it because it really works me hard :) But I love that I get a great work out in 20 minutes.
ReplyDeleteI linked your post on WEGO Health here: http://community.wegohealth.com/profiles/blogs/health-bloggers-blogging?xg_source=activity
Wishing you all the best w/ your goals! I hope everyone is viewing these 10 weeks as a starting point for making lifelong healthy changes. You've been so helpful w/ the challenge & I so appreciate that! XOXO
ReplyDeleteI wish you the best with your goals. Some unsolicited advice, I tend to find that the more specific the goal, the more likely I'll achieve them. Maintain x weight. Eat 3 servings of fruit. Drink 6 glasses of water etc...
ReplyDeleteI need to be better about breakfast.
ReplyDeleteHey, if you're cooking anything out of your garden this month, I'd sure love to have you participate in our Grow Your Own roundup again!
Those sound like fantastic goals, Katie! You & I sound so similar- those are the exact things I struggle with. I am excited to hear how it all turns out!!
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome! I love your clean, healthy, balanced attitude. The partnership and accountabilty in the Ten in '10 is so cool. I too am joining you guys in this positive start to a New Year!
ReplyDeleteDay to day mindful eating and exercise not only makes us look great, our energy levels are increased and we feel happier. That said.....
I agree that we are all entitled to our favorites from time to time. Our lives wouldn't have vibrancy without the addition of the occasional treat. Mine, layer cake.... made with the best ingredients :)
Thanks for stopping by BigSiSLilSis. I'm really excited about this Ten in 10! I think the support from everyone else participating in this challenge is going to help me stay motivated.
ReplyDeleteI think that by writing down my goals and posting them for all to see will help me stay focused in order to achieve the end result. Plus, I just have a feeling that 2010 is the year!
My sister is starting over with the 30 Day Shred. She says she really noticed a difference when she stopped doing it. I have two other Jillian DVD's but they're almost an hour, so I'm thinking of getting 30 Day Shred.
Keep up the good work!
Our goals are pretty similar this year (but it seems like most people setting goals have the eat heatlhier/be more active combo on their list). Good luck with your goals!
ReplyDeleteHope your challenge is going well so far! Lots of great goals. How do you like the 30 Day Shred? I have done a few of Jillian's older DVDs, but haven't tried any of the newer ones lately.
ReplyDelete"Plan these meals like I would plan dinner." Interesting. It makes sense, but I've never really thought about approaching breakfast and lunch that way. If I put more thought into them, I'm sure I'd eat a lot healthier than I do. Thanks for saying that "out loud."
