NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto {giveaway}

Congrats Crystal who said "That is so awesome!! I Love coffee and hot chocolate!!" You are the lucky winner of the NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto™. I've sent you an email with instruction on how to claim your prize. Enjoy!

It's been a while since the last contest here on goodLife {eats} and no better excuse to celebrate a new blog design than with a giveaway.

A few months ago I was contacted about an opportunity to test out a new coffee machine on the market - the NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto™. My first response was: "I don't drink coffee" (no, not even decaf). When then I saw that the machine makes hot chocolate I decided to give it a try and have a group of friends help me test out the coffee features.

Each month my MOMS Club Chapter has a book club meeting. I signed up to be the hostess for our July meeting. Typically we have a book that we've all agreed on, read it, and discuss it. There's always food at the meeting and we have fun trying to pick foods that fit in theme with the book. For July, we did something a little different. Instead of a book, we picked an author and all read different books by Elizabeth Noble.

I put the machine and all the flavor capsules out with our spread of food at the meeting so everyone in attendance could sample as they pleased and help me provide feedback on the product. Here's what they had to say:
  • I want need one of these.
  • A nice all-in-one machine for a less cluttered kitchen counter.
  • Very convenient that you are able to make one cup at a time vs. a whole pot.
  • The cappuccino tasted exactly like a cappuccino.
  • It doesn't seem very green with all the waste created from the individual plastic flavor capsules when compared to traditional coffee (filters are biodegradable and the grounds can be composted). Are the capsules recyclable? If not, consider making them out of recyclable materials.
  • Love all the different flavor options.
  • Easy to use.
  • More expensive than regular coffee.

Overall it was a well received product and my friends look forward to attending MOMS Club events at my house since they know I'll have this little gadget out for them to use. As far as my opinion as a non-coffee drinker - I'd need Krups to add a significant number of non-coffee options for this to be something that I'd purchase (among the 8 drinks the machine makes, only 1 is non-coffee). If I didn't entertain in my home on a regular basis, I'd have given the machine away to a friend who could make better use of it. Since I do entertain in my home, it's a fun product to have on hand, though I probably would not have purchased it myself. Thanks, Krups, for a fun freebie that I can share with my friends and another to give away on goodLife {eats}.

  147. Allison with Dolce GustoSeptember 2, 2009 at 10:29 AM

    This is Allison – I work on the social outreach efforts for Dolce Gusto. First, thanks for taking the time to review the Dolce Gusto and sharing with your friends – we truly appreciate your honest feedback. A few things I thought I’d share with you.

    In regards to the flavor options for non-coffee drinkers, we are always working on new flavors and this kind of feedback is truly helpful in making those kinds of decisions. As new flavors become available, one of us will be sure to let you know.

    As far as being recyclable goes, Nescafe Dolce Gusto is a global brand. You might be reassured to know that the capsules are recoverable through packaging recovery schemes in Europe, called green dot organizations. These do not exist in the US, so in part one reason we can’t be recycled is the recycling capabilities / infrastructure specific to the US market. In general, Nestlé is committed to reducing the environmental impact of packaging, without jeopardizing the safety, quality or consumer acceptance of its products. The company strives to reduce weight and volume of materials; lead in the development and use of renewable resources; support the recovery of used packaging and decrease waste and use recycled materials, where appropriate.

    If you have any more questions, or thoughts you’d like to share, please let us know. Thanks!
