This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations, Kerstin!
Back in April when I did the Mother's Day gift guide series I included a Toshiba Satellite M505D-S4000 laptop as a suggestion for the Aspiring Chef.
Thanks to Toshiba, I received my own laptop, a Toshiba Satellite M505D-S4000, for Mother's Day. It has been an incredible asset to me in the kitchen and not just because I'm a food blogger, though it has really contributed to my productivity there as well. Our desktop is upstairs and I was constantly printing recipes to bring downstairs so I could make them. What a waste of paper! I has been wonderful to look up recipes on the internet right in the kitchen or to draft a blog post for a recipe that I'm making so I don't forget any of the ingredients I used while creating the recipe.
Thanks the the great Toshiba Bulletin Board Software I was able to plan out all of our summer activities, appointments, deadlines and vacations without committing it to paper until I was sure what the plan was. I've also been using that to keep track of recipe ideas, freelancing projects, and flavor or ingredient combos I want to work on for my blog. It's a great way to put together a virtual inspiration board.
Not only does the Bulletin Board organize my ideas and help me stay on top of my busy life, but it allows you to quickly access key utilities, programs and special offers like Toshiba Online back-up. It will give you alert messages for product updates or help you enter the support center to get the help you need.
Here are a few of the technical highlights:
- Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
- 4GB DDR2 800MHz memory
- 500GB HDD
- 14.0" widescreen
- DVD-SuperMulti (+/-R double layer) with Labelflash™ drive supporting up to 11 formats
- Webcam and microphone built into LCD bezel
- Wi-Fi® Wireless networking (802.11b/g/n)
- Built-in microphone, Headphone jack (stereo)
- AC Adapter
- 75W (19V 3.95A) Auto-sensing, 100-240V / 50-60Hz input
- Li-Ion Battery (4800mAh, 6-Cell), lasts up to 3.16 hours
- PC Express Slot
- 1-ExpressCard™ Slot
- S/P DIF output port (shared with headphone port), Memory Card Reader
- USB Ports: 1-eSATA/USB (2.0) combo port with Sleep and Charge, 2-USB (2.0)
- Energy Star Qualified
For me the only down points to this model have been the weight (starts at 5.16 lbs) and the touchpad. I wish the laptop was a little slimmer because then it'd be easier to slip it into my camera bag for trips and conferences. I've been on a desktop for so long that a touch pad is really hard for me to use and I'm much slower at it than a mouse, but that was easily solved with a $15 wireless mouse that plugs in in via the USB drive.

What a terrific giveaway! A laptop would make my life immensely easier because our (mac) desktop is ancient (as computers go - it's probably almost 8 years old) and is breaking down. My son has a laptop, but it is MAJORLY quirky and he needs it for school, so I don't get on as often as I may like or need to. This computer looks very nice!
ReplyDelete#1, having my own computer would be so easier because 3 - 4 people wouldn't all be competing for the same computer as we do now with my son's laptop.
#2, laptops are always so much more convenient for their portability.

Wow, it would be *fabulous* to have a laptop! Being a fellow (new) foodie blogger, I too have to hassle with running back and forth from my laptop to kitchen. Not to mention how AWESOME it would be to take my work with me wherever I go (did I just say that?)
ReplyDeleteMy Toshiba laptop just kicked the bucket last month and I would love to replace it. I hate being stuck at a desk so a new laptop would greatly improve my focus.

ReplyDeleteMy husband's laptop recently crashed and so we desperately need a new one!! I'm guilty of always bringing the laptop into the kitchen to look at recipes while I'm cooking- it has food stains to show for it!
ReplyDeleteI checked out the Toshiba website and they had a handy laptop finder for you to check things you were looking for in a laptop such as use, size, speed and then several choice would come up based on your needs, this is what I choose.
ReplyDeleteSatellite M500-ST54E1 Laptop
Satellite M500-ST54E1 Laptop
* Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T6600
* Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
* 4GB DDR2 800MHz memory
* 400GB HDD (5400rpm)
* 512MB GDDR3 ATI® Mobility Radeon™ HD 4570
But really I would be happy with a functioning laptop that didn't have keys missing and didn't mysteriously disconnect from the internet and have to be rebooted.

ReplyDeleteI have never had a laptop and would love one! 3 of us share a desktop and it is very tough...I also would love the freedom of not being stuck in one place while doing all the things online that I need to do...
would love a nice lightweight one for trips
ReplyDeleteMy parents super old toshiba laptop just kicked the bucket. As they live in an RV, a laptop is really the only option they have for staying in touch online. I'd love to be able to replace their laptop for them!
ReplyDeleteWow - your giveaways this week have been INSANE!
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting a laptop so badly for so long. Every evening when my husband comes home from work (and on the weekends too), he uses the computer for work and games, which means I have to finish all of my work before he gets home. Having a laptop would give me so much more flexibility - I could draft blog posts, work on my etsy shop, even answer emails. And to have computer access in my studio- well,that would put me over the moon! No more printing out tutorials so I can remember the order of the steps - I could look them up and follow the instructions on the screen. Of if I take photos of my work in progress, I could edit and post them right away instead of waiting until I can get a block of computer time.
ooo.... I'm crossing my fingers! I haven't wanted to win something this much for a while!
A laptop would make my life easier as a grad student so i could take it to class and take notes with it! Also, so that I can work on papers/homework in other locations other than at home at my desktop.

I would "kill" to have a laptop/pc of my own. No more fighting with a teenager when I really need to pay bills or go online!! I could check email when I have to go out of town for a couple of days. I could use the laptop in the kitchen, living room, bedroom, and even the bathroom, if I choose to. This would be a fabulous addition to my household.
ReplyDeleteTHANKS for the great opportunity.

My husband currently works from home, and we share a computer. Eventually it would be really nice for him to get an office outside the house and me get a computer so we aren't "fighting" for use of it. I am also phasing more work IN to my stay at home life, and working from my own computer would be much, much easier. This is great.

ReplyDeleteOh I dream of having a laptop someday when we can afford another computer. For now, though I have to put up with our decent PC that sits in my un-air conditioned upstairs. We have no room downstairs. So, to use it means sweltering heat right now. It would be wonderful to have a laptop to browse recipes while making dinner instead of running upstairs, printing a recipe and then running back downstairs. Plus, I mostly use the computer to read blogs, I would love to be able to read while sitting on the couch with my family. Someday, I hope...
